Information For Kids

What is a therapist?

A therapist is someone who helps kids understand their feelings. A therapist can talk with kids about any worries they may have and help them learn how to feel happier.

What will we do in therapy?

We will play! There are many different things to do in my office. We can do arts and crafts, play a board game, read some books or just talk. Sometimes playing helps us figure out how to solve a problem we may have.

How long will it take?

When you meet with me for therapy in my office, that is called a session. A typical therapy session is 45-60 minutes. Sometimes it can be longer or shorter, depending on what we're working on that day. The most important thing to remember is that you will never have to stay in a session longer than you want to.

Will you tell anyone what we talk about?

That's a great question! What we talk about in therapy is mostly private. You should feel comfortable knowing that I'm not going to give anyone a play by play account of what was said while in a therapy session.

The only time I will tell someone else, like a parent, what you tell me is if someone is hurting you, you are hurting someone else or  you are hurting yourself. My job is to help you be happy and safe!
